LinkedIn, the social-networking site linking professional peers, said last week that it had hit a major milestone, counting more than 200 million registered users on a global scale.
The site serves its members in 19 languages and covers over 200 countries and territories.
In an infographic, created to celebrate the “important and exciting milestone” and posted on its official blog, the company gave a breakdown of its membership by geographic location and industry.
The US remains its largest market with 74 million registered users, followed by India and the UK, where it counts 18 million and 11 million members respectively. Brazil (11 million users) and Canada (7 million) top the list of its five biggest markets.
LinkedIn said that approximately two members join its network every second, which makes 172,800 registrations per day. Its membership base is expanding most rapidly in Turkey, Colombia and Indonesia, while the mobile use of LinkedIn is growing fastest in China, followed by Brazil, Portugal, India and Italy.
Unsurprisingly, most of its members are from the tech-focused industries. The biggest group is in the IT and services sector – four million, followed by financial services (2.03 million members), higher education (1.95 million), computer software (1.65 million) and telecoms (1.59 million).
The company does not provide the actual number of active users, however figures from its rival Facebook boast over one billion active users.
