Women with children are widely known for their affinity for social networks. According to a study from comScore, mothers in the United Kingdom spend up to 443.3 minutes a month on these websites, or about 17 minutes more than the average female in the country.
Females aged 6 and above spend an average of 2 hours more on social networks than males. The research, which reviewed social network activity in July, also showed that men with kids show more interest in using social network websites than men without children.
Mobile was not included in the study; only the time spent on social websites from work and home computers was measured. However, if mobile were included, the numbers would be even higher, especially as an increasing portion of activity on social networks takes place on the go.
Mothers are also more likely to have accounts across many social networking websites. An earlier study from comScore, cited by BabyCentre, noted that mothers in the UK between the ages of 18 and 35 are more likely than the average Internet user to take part in all social networks included in the research.
Around 80% of mothers in the UK use Facebook and the same percentage use YouTube, compared to around 72% of the UK population using Facebook and approximately 67% YouTube.
The participation of UK mums on Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter was also seen to be between 1 and 5 percentage points higher compared to the average UK Internet user accessing social networks.
